Whereas Richard M. Nixon's legacy includes Vice President Cheney, Secretary Rumsfeld, and Supreme Court Chief Justice Rehnquist, all of whom began their careers under Nixon;

whereas the Bush administration thus owes its very existence to Richard M. Nixon;

whereas Mr. Nixon has been savagely accused by liberals of permanently soiling the Presi- dency;

whereas Mr. Nixon's indiscretions would barely, today, break the front page for a day or two, before being successfully "spun ";

therefore we the undersigned call for the complete rehabilitation of President Nixon, including:

• publicly acknowledging the debt owed by the Bush administration to that of Nixon;
• granting Mr. Nixon's "indiscretions" the posthumous "spin" they deserve;;
• the establishment of Richard Nixon as a conservative reference point when speaking of constancy, steadfastness, and self-confidence (as in:"You, sir, are no Richard Nixon ").
