Whereas more than two million people are in prison in the U.S. —more than anywhere else,
and over 5 times more per capita than in other rich countries; whereas despite being put to work by multinational corporations, our prisoners are expensive ,
and take needed funds from Defense; whereas the U.S. still has 5 times more murders per capita than other rich countries; whereas our wars abroad are increasingly unappealing to volunteer soldiers, even the most
economically needy; whereas President Bush's most interesting new weapons —"battlefield " nukes —may cause
vastly higher casualty rates among U.S. troops; therefore we, the undersigned, hereby propose drafting all U.S. prisoners for use on the battle-
?eld. We also propose, as a pre-emptive social andfinancial measure, drafting entire "crimi-
nally disposed "neighborhoods, such as the Bronx in New York, for use in battle. |
